Discussion question: Why does 6 and 7 show that a life saved from under the law by Christ will be evidenced by love and not lawlessness? i.e. why does salvation from sin produce lives of righteousness and not more sin?
Discussion quesiton: What is the point Paul is getting at in v1-3?
Leader: for your review:
It’s interesting to note the subjects and objects in this passage.
The law has jurisdiction over a person as long as he lives —> but the person that “dies” in the passage is not the person who the law is under. Therefore, the person that dies is the person that is still “living”
v4 says we have become dead to the law, or we died to the law
same greek word in Matt 10:21, 25:59, 27:1
what tense is “died”? past, so we know it’s done
v4 is great because it gives the analogy two parts, our death frees us from the jurisdiction of the law, and it allows us to be united to another.
Discussion question: What are the fruits we might bear for God?
Gal 5:22-23 love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
